Urban girl - my husband collects mortar and pestles (he was a chef in another lifetime - the recipes you see featured here in the Organic Kitchen are his)and trust me, mortar and pestles come in all shapes, sizes and materials. My personal favourite is a carrera marble peice we have. Very fun.
