{vintages} Hollywood Regency Style with Fabulous Mess

My my!  As of late I've been very drawn to industrial/utilitarian vintage objets, so when I came across Fabulous Mess it was like a gigantic nudge to go a little glam and introduce some Hollywood regency style!   The eye popping peices are so well curated, each and every peice works together seamlessly.  These peices are so unabashedly girly... how very refreshing!  A side note: Fabulous Mess has a great eye for quality (I wish we had vintage shops like this here!  I could design an entire issue of Pure Green Living Magazine around them!) Almost every peice is created by a well-known designer, so expect to pay a little more... you can bet they are investment peices though.

I have no idea why, but I have always loved this faux bamboo style, especially painted white or black.  I've been keeping an eye out for chinoiserie dining chairs forever!

I love the robin's egg blue they use as a backdrop in many of their photos.... it works so well!

{eco} style: summer woodland

I saw this dress, and absolutely could not resist creating an eco style post around it!  Everyday, or nearly, I take my dog Rusty for a walk after work (at the shop) in the woods.  We have a great trail to walk, and as I do so, I'm always struck by how wonderful I feel, and how beautiful it is.  It is so refreshing and energizing, especially after spending most of my day on the computer.  So this post kind of honours my love of the woods too.  Hope you like! 

Also, more news!  I was absent yesterday because, while I'm working madly on the next issue of PGL Magazine, I'm also launching a new online store and website for my business, Sustain!  It's all so exciting.  I will keep you posted, and I sincerely hope you'll pay me a visit when it's done!

the {green} traveller: Chateau de Massillan

Come away to France, to a little luxury chateau, tucked into the countryside between Orange and Avignon.  Built in 1550 as a hunting lodge, le Chateau de Massillan originally belonged to Dianne de Poitiers (Henry the II's life-long partner).  The building has been beautifully maintained and still has many of its original features... how very green... and is furnished with many period peices to give an authentic charm to the hotel. 

Yes please. A little daydream for you to finish off the week.

{eco} find

I found this today.... for those of you who love graphic art, such as the vintage trolley signs I posted about last week but don't want the price tag that comes with it.  These are produced by Locality (found via Etsy) - you can customize the poster with any 20-25 words of your choice.  My one year anniversary is coming up and I thought this would be a really great homage to things that define you as a couple...favourite vacation spot, books, foods, one liners, important dates, and so on.  Don't you think?  You can choose to have yours either hand-painted or printed digitally.  Another nice idea from Locality is a custom birth announcement, see them on their site.

{eco} design: Jorge & Veronica's flat

This Buenos Aires' flat just oozes charm.  It is a perfect example of curating and personalizing objects that speak to you and making them work in your space.  The repetition of red thoughout the flat ties everything together neatly, so that the eclectic feel looks curated not cluttered.  This is also a fantastic example of working with your space - Jorge and Veronica, the owners of the flat, chose to feature the original wall seen above, rather than painting it, and the apartment still has many original features, such as the stained glass, wood floors, and marble steps (see below).

The repetition of the red stools and the red lamps is fantastic, and those shelves just kill me!  I am most definitely not the type for kitchen display shelves.  Mine are more the type where things fall out at you when you open them!

Another view of the kitchen.  Concrete floors are an excellent eco finish, as they help to keep your home warm/cool.  I am also in absolute love with concrete countertops.  We work with concrete artisans at my store, and they are just beautiful.  Definitely on my kitchen wish list.  In fact, we just finished a beauty cabinet with a concrete top.  I'll share pictures with you soon!

More salvage chic.  The symmetry of the lamp shades and artwork keep the space tidy and considered.

One thing I noticed when I travelled in Greece was the abundance of marble.... it's like brick to them, and is absolutely everywhere.  I loved it and was in constant awe of it.  Such as this solid carrerra staircase.  The juxtaposition of traditional and modern is very obvious here, another thread that ties together Jorge and Veronica's flat.

Have I mentioned Argentina is on my must-see list?

{eco} vintages & style

I came across the most adorable company the other day, and immediately fell in love.  Like many things on the net, I wish they were closer!  Anyway, Missprint is a mother/daughter outfit from the UK.  Among the many things they do, they print eco wall paper, using non-toxic inks.  Their designs are graphic and mod, and are exactly the kind of think I can picture in my home!  I'm loving gray these days so I was drawn to the two samples you see here, but their website has much more to see, including some fantastic metallic prints!

Missprint also refurbishes vintage peices with their own special twist.

Finally, I if you're like me and are always on the lookout for a great lamp, you'll love these, which are hand silkscreened onto veggie dyed dupion silk or linen.
